WHAT HAPPENS IN MY COUNSELLING ROOM

OK so pretty much every new client I have says that they felt or feel a bit nervous, they’ve never done this before and don’t know what to expect. If they have it is still a new experience . I totally understand these feelings, I felt the same way the first time I entered a counselling room as a client.
I will do my best to set you at ease. I will explain what’s going to happen in the first session . I’ll talk a bit about how I work, what you can expect. I will explain how I may challenge ideas ,which is nothing to full on, and will be along the lines of, I’m wondering how “this “hangs together, with “that”. Be yourself in the room , if its funny then we will share the funny, if it’s sad then I’m there for that too and everything else in-between. Mostly it’s a non judgmental safe space for you to be able to express yourself and not have to sensor your thoughts. .
(Being able to understand what your feeling and to see stuff from different perspectives is what I will help you to do , reflecting on all areas of things you find upsetting. And Together we can shine a light on what’s going on and see if its how you want to carry on doing things.and if not how to go about changing these areas should you choose to.)
You come to your own realisations and make the leaps, I’m more the tour guide. I am deadly serious when needed, but I also believe in keeping things real and am an everyday kind of person …..which I am happy to bring into the counselling room, to help as much as possible.
Counselling can help you to live a more relaxed life, its often able to be a kind of self-development, it can help alleviate distress, depression and anxiety. Build self esteem and frankly help you to realise that your enough just as you are. It’s a way of looking after yourself and give you space to cry, laugh etc and not be judged…! It can also be a way of preventing mental illness, getting ahead of feelings rather than waiting till you can no longer cope, though I will of course do all I can to help then too. There is a list of the areas I can help with on the about page.
However, I specialise in Depression , Anxiety and Self Esteem Issues and have a special interest in Psychogenic Non Epileptic Seizures.
